In a speech read on his behalf at the inception workshop to commence the process to evaluate GIS Strategic Plan 2011-2015 and to draft a new strategic plan, he said to do this, there should be a focus on five clusters of actions such as addressing root causes of irregular migration and forced displacement, legal migration and mobility, protection and asylum, fight against irregular migration and return, as well as readmission and reintegration.

He said the right approach is to develop a common instrument to efficiently manage migration phenomenon that has become a threat for both Africa and Europe, and therefore sees this workshop by the GIS as timely and a step in the right direction to deal with this canker.

Mr. Hanna was pleased that the GIS had benefited from the EU-ECOWAS regional support which is complimentary to the bilateral cooperation between EU- Ghana on migration.
