Saying, officers should not feel and behave as if they were “untouchable and can have their way without regard to the law and laid down rules and procedural practices”.
Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi said, officers should either fall in line with path of professional correctness or fall out of line since government would not allow a handful of officers to tarnish the had earned reputation of the Service by undermining its integrity and corporate image.
The Minister, made these remarks during a three day Special delegate conference for Regional and Sector Commanders of GIS in Accra. He advised that, Officers and men should conform to management decisions and live up to expectation.
He however assured the gathering that government is working relentlessly to ensure that essential logistics and infrastructure would be provided to enable the Service discharge its duties effectively. He commended the Board, Management, and the entire staff of GIS, for their cooperation with the Gemalto and Avalon Biometrics companies in the commencement of the E-Immigration Project.
The Director of Immigration, COP [Dr.] Peter Wiredu on his part, stressed that the leadership of the Service would jealously guard against any attempts by some officers who are willfully creating leakages in the revenue generation stream for their personal benefit.
He also cautioned officers to desist from the use of skillful manipulations to outwit the Service and warned they will be dealt with accordingly when caught. He urged Officers and Men to rather uphold and defend the image of the Service and address issues through the proper channels instead of resorting to the media.
Dr. Peter Wiredu, was however enthused, that, despite the financial difficulties of the Service in the year 2013, Management was able to settle payments to address some accommodation needs for staff. He commended Management and Staff for their input in completing the Standard Operating Procedure [SOP’s] manuals for all aspects of operational and administrative processes of the Service.
He reiterated that, presently, management is embarking on a gradual decentralization of the financial administration of the Service to ensure that resources are applied judiciously at all levels for revenue to increase substantially.
The Director further disclosed that, a Management sub-committee has been established to proof-read the condition of service that has been referred to the Service by the Attorney-General’s Department
