The Ghana Immigration Service as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR] has organized a blood donation exercise at its Headquarters to support the short fall of blood at the National Blood Bank.

The exercise, the first of its kind was organized in collaboration with the Ghana National Blood Bank.Briefing the media, a Deputy Superintendent of Immigration [DSI], Richard Kelvin Coffie, said, the exercise was motivated by an appeal from the National Blood Bank to stock it reserve. He disclosed that the exercise would be done twice in a year within a six month period.

He said, GIS as a Security Agency has set the pace and expressed the hope that other corporate institutions would do same.


On his part, the Blood Donor Recruitment Officer of the National Blood Bank, Felix Appertey, reiterated, that the National Blood Bank is in serious crisis and the gesture by the Ghana Immigration Service is very much appreciated.


Mr Appertey, further indicated that about one hundred fifty [150] Units of blood are needed every day and two hundred and fifty thousand [250.000] Units annually as a nation.  He also, appealed to the general public to voluntarily try to donate at least once in a while.

He added that the blood you donate today can go a long way to save a life and, that life could be yours or a close relation.
