The British Government has donated legal books worth eleven thousand pounds [£11.000] to the Ghana Immigration Service [GIS] at a ceremony in Accra.
The donation which forms part of the four year strategic Plan of the GIS, titled GIS-UK Project, is under the theme ‘strengthening the institutional capacity of Ghana Immigration Service to effectively manage migration for national development.
Receiving the books on behalf of the GIS, the Deputy Director in charge of legal, Baaba Asare, thanked the British government for its continuous support extended to the Service and expressed the hope that the books would be put to good use.
She was quick to add that the objective of the GIS- UK Project has been fully achieved with all the three itemized activities; recruitment of three lawyers, setting up a library at the National Headquarters and the supply of contemporary legal books to furnish the library, due to the cooperation between the British government and the GIS.
The Migration Project Officer for the British High Commission to Ghana, Mark Ganney presented the books to the GIS on behalf of his government.
The books presented include: Misuse of Drug and Drug Trafficking Offences, Bennion on Statutory Interpretation, the Interpretation of Contracts, Serious Fraud, Investigation and Trial, among others.
