The Minister expressed satisfaction about the approved draft bill by parliament which provides legal backing for personnel of the Service to bear firearms.Hon. Woyongo, assured the Service of government and the Ministry of the Interior’s support  to offer the appropriate financial and logistical assistance required to move the Service to a greater height.

He said, that despite the challenges that confronted the Service and the nation in 2014, which included the scare of the Ebola epidemic, terrorism, and threats of it within the Sub-region, the adverse activities of Fulani herdsmen and some foreign nationals in illegal small mining and limited financial resource, the Lord Almighty preserved the peace and the territorial integrity of the nation, and this he said all should be thankful for.

Speaking on the topic ‘ Count Your Blessings’,  an International Evangelist, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh admonished officers and men of the GIS to never forget God in whatever they do, because the  Service could not have come this far, without the help of God. He urged the personnel to be disciplined and honest and work hard to promote and project GIS and Ghana.
The Director of Immigration, Commissioner of Police (Dr.) Peter A. Wiredu, in his welcome address, explained that Management could not organize the WASSA to coincide with Christmas and the New Year festivity, but this is a modified version and it’s aimed at giving personnel the opportunity to offer appreciation to God for how far He has Brought Us and also to thank God for keeping the Service for the past 25years.

The Director reiterated that in the face of the numerous challenges the Service encountered in 2014, the Lord was merciful, and many successes were chalked. Amongst them are; the cabinet endorsement of Drafted Immigration Bill,  Procurement of vehicles, completion of a number  of projects as key components of the Four Year Strategic Plan and sponsored Project on Countering Irregular Migration, with a number of positive deliverables especially in human resources development.

Dr. Wiredu also mentioned the commencement of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) sponsored project, the Ghana Integrated Migration Management Approach (GIMMA) and the completion of the Administrative and the Human Resource Polices, including Standard Operation Procedure (SOPs), and Training Curriculum as some of the achievements.

Dr. Wiredu expressed the hope that the Lord will continue to direct, guide, and give wisdom and strength to the personnel of the Service to achieve the targets set for 2015.
The Prayer and Thanksgiving get-together which was under the theme ‘Celebrating the Goodness of the Lord for How Far He’s Brought Us’ was organized for GIS personnel within the Greater Accra Region and the Tema Command. In attendance were Service Commanders of the sister security agencies, GIS Board Members, Retired Immigration Officers and other dignitaries.
