PREZ COMMISSIONS NEOPE BORDER

 

The Presidents of Ghana and Togo, John Dramani Mahama and Faure Gnassingbe, and some dignitaries cutting the tape to commission the joint border between Ghana & Togo

The President, H. E. John Dramani Mahama, has commissioned a Joint Border Project worth €10, 287,077 between Ghana and Togo at Neope in the Volta Region.
The Project which covers an area of 17.7 hectors and funded by the European Union and other development partners is to facilitate transport as well as cross border movement of persons and goods from the neighboring member states.

It is aimed at giving a fresh drive to inter and intra-regional trade as well as international trade, reduce the deadlines, business cost and the recurrence of social scourge like alcoholism and promiscuity experienced by truckers and forwarding agents, due to delays at the borders.
The objective is to foster cooperation between Ghana and Togo and eliminate corruption and tax evasion at the borders.  It is also to make trade easier with the combination of the customs clearance activities at the same time and achieve scale economies.
The project which is located at Neope is subdivided into zones for passengers transportation, freight handling, transit and cattle inspection.  It also has customer brigade, inspection bay, main administration, entry gate and post, commercial service, rest shelter, health services, toilet block, pedestrian route, weigh bridge and scanner control rooms among others.
The  Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbe, some  Ministers from the two countries, the Director of Immigration, Commissioner of Police, (Dr.) Peter A. Wiredu, and  his deputies in charge of Operation, Finance and Administration and Legal and the Commissioner General of Ghana Revenue Authority were in attendance.
