The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mark O. Woyongo has reiterated the call for the Ghana Immigration Service[ GIS] personnel to bear arms due to the increase
in cross – border crime which include transportation of illicit drugs and light weapon to neighboring countries.

is currently before parliament when passed into law will give the Service legal backing to that effect. This will to enable them to effectively patrol the frontiers without fear.
He was quick to add that the Service’s establishment of the Enforcement and Intelligence Bureau [EIB] has flushed out numerous illegal migrants who engage in various crimes including acquisition of fake residence permit and breach of GIS Laws and regulations.
Hon. Woyongo also threw light on the extent of work done on the $18million European Funded Project, e-immigration which will standardize the registration, approval and issuance procedures for all visa and permit electronically and eliminate unnecessary delays. The e-immigration Project is expected to be operational in February 2016, he added.
