The Director of Ghana Immigration Service, [GIS], Commissioner of Police [COP] Dr. Peter A. Wiredu has commended retired officers of the Service, for laying a solid foundation for future generations to build on and also improve upon.

at a presentation ceremony for officers who retired between 2011 and 2012 at the GIS headquarters, Accra. The Director threw a challenge to the Association of Retired Immigration Officers, [ARIO], executives who were present at the ceremony, to propose areas of the GIS policies and practices that needed a review for the directorate to deliberate on. He was quick to add that, the Service is ready and prepared to tap into their wealth of experience

He also admonished young Officers to treat retirees with dignity, honour and respect, and advised officers who treat retirees with ill-mannered attitudes to remember that a day will come when they will also retire from active service, and should not be surprised if they are also ill treated in like manner, hence, they should desist from such behaviours.

The Director, reiterated on some challenges of the Service including transportation, accommodation, inadequate budgetary allocations, inadequate logistical support for arms and ammunitions, and lack of radio/signal equipment which has affected the effective dissemination of information within Service.

The retired officers, who were twelve in number [12] were presented with a Double Decker Refrigerator and a letter of appreciation.
